The Raspberry Pi is a low cost, single-board computer.
It is a versatile little device that enables people of all ages to explore computing and learn how to program in languages like Scratch and Python.
Initially, the Raspberry Pi was created to teach young children in developing countries basic computer skills.
However, due to its accessibility and affordable prices, the Raspberry Pi rose in popularity amongst customers ranging from digital artists to game programmers.
It’s capable of doing everything you’d expect a desktop computer to do, from browsing the internet and playing high-definition video to making spreadsheets, word-processing, and playing games.
All that, but with similar power consumption to a phone instead.
RASPBERRY PI ACCESSORIES
To use a Raspberry Pi as a computer, you'll need a few accessories.
You'd need to plug it into a computer monitor or TV via its micro HDMI port and also a standard keyboard and mouse.
In order for any software to run on a Raspberry Pi device, you'll also need a micro SD Card to download an operating system, such as Raspberry Pi OS.
IS RASPBERRY PI WORTH BUYING?
What’s more, the latest version of Raspberry Pi offers advanced features such as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
These new Raspberry Pi models now can interact with the outside world and have been used in a wide array of digital making projects, from music machines and parent detectors to weather stations and tweeting birdhouses with infra-red cameras.
There are also simpler uses for the Raspberry Pi 4 model, such as hosting a web server and checking your email.
